Caro Emerald - "That Man" Music Video

This music video fills me with "Pink Panther" and "Catch Me If You Can" nostalgia, and I'm loving every moment of it.

You Are The Technology

An advertising campaign for a new type of running shoe, one supposedly without any technology. Here, the people 'are' the advert, having being scrawled on from head to foot. While Body Art has been around for countless years, and while we've all seen this sort of thing many times before, it doesn't come across as a marketing gimmick in the slightest. On the contrary - the visual style of art used in the advert, the interactivity and feel of the website and the concept behind the advertising gel together perfectly and brings a coherent visual identity to the product.

The target audience is even reflected in, and can connect with, the models themselves. This brings us to the interactivity. Because of the way people will read, carefully placed interactive hotspots virtually guide the viewer from the very start and introduction to actually buying the finished model. Just like every other advert then? No. Because of how these hot spots are hidden, you almost feel like you arrived at the conclusions yourself, without aide of advertisement.

On a minor negative point, at some points the typography is unreadable, and clarity is everything in advertising. Plus, I feel some of the target audience wouldn't have the time or the inclination to search for the interactive hotspots. And too right, why should they. It's a shame, though, that once you get through to its main website it just looks like another turnkey website.

Just me trying to flex my analysing muscles after a pretty long summer.

Motion Graphics: Triangle

Old school 80's anaglyphs seem to really be making a comeback. I doubt it will last long, but let's enjoy it while it lasts. This is a video with fantastic 3D and textural work. A really dark feeling video.

Graphic Projection on Rochester Castle

I've always been interested in projection, the bigger the scale, the better. And what's more, this fantastic gem of motion graphics is set to a tune by AC/DC, one of my favourite bands of all time. Enjoy, I certainly did.

The Campaign for the Return of Real Rap (RRR)

The Brief:
RRR is an underground campaign calling for the Return of Real Rap. The audience consists of fans of this music genre, of all ages and backgrounds, and the campaign will largely be spread via word of mouth and via the youtube community. Given the image above, create an original sting which reflects the nature of the campaign. The video should be the correct dimensions for youtube videos so it can fulfill its purpose.

An Egg.
A Cat.
A Ladder.

There must also be three recurring lines of dialogue:
"See you next Wednesday"
"The most important thing in life is..."
"How much for the little one?"

In addition to your film your group must also produce a poster for inclusion in the Oscar Night Program!

Write This Down Productions Promo Taster

As mentioned in a previous post, I'm working with Joel Baker on an advert for freelancing film company, "Write This Down," found at writethisdown.co.uk/. While I cannot reveal the finished advert just yet, I can show some stills from the project and the brief idea behind it. The advert was made with the intention of advertising their new showreel and generating some more business.

Showreel:

Write This Down Showreel from Write This Down on Vimeo.

It covers the concept that they design for computer screens, cinema screens, mobile phone screens and television screens, and linking with the company name, the theme is paper-based and everything except the showreel will be hand drawn. The ad will seamlessly link between mediums while playing the showreel, finishing with a closing tagline and logo.

Popular: Buffalo TV Brand Guide

The result of 9 weeks of a brief entitled "Popular". The objective was to create a fresh new music channel, whose music theme and concept were original. It was primarily a print project, meaning creating a visual identity and stationary were a must, and it culminated in an A2 presentation. A collaboration with Haobo Chen, see his work here!

Inspired: Kinetic typography

The latest brief, 'inspired,' is a project on motion graphics. Taking a 10-20 second audio clip of a creative talking about what inspires them, you must turn it into visually pleasing and inspiring kinetic typography. I found a fantastic quote by Steve Jobs, founder of Apple and Pixar.

"I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and sans serif typefaces about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography, great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating."
